Another sign of diabetes is sores or bruises that either take
forever to heal or don't heal. In women, persistent, recurring
yeast infections are a symptom. Other potential symptoms
include problems with your vision, tingling/numbness in hands
or feet, recurring skin, gum, bladder infections, extreme hunger,
Untreated or undiagnossed diabetes can lead to many problems
including death. It can lead to blindness, kidney failure, amputations
of extremities, nerve problems, hair loss, dysfunctional thyroid,
pernicious anemia, skin rashes, heart attacks, strokes, gangrene,
hardening of the arteries, impotence, cardiovascular diseases
including heart failure, and chronic dental diseases.
Diabetes has become an epedemic, not only in the US but in
countries all around the world. Almost everything I have read is
stressing the importance of having blood glucose checks at least
once a year after you turn 45. That's one of the reasons I am posting this information where EVERYbody can see it. Diabetes
is an insidious disease. You can have it for years and you not even
know it until complications start showing up. Believe me, being
told that I am prediabtic was a BIG wake-up call for me. I
watched an aunt die of diabetes because she wouldn't take care
of herself or follow her diet except for two weeks before a
doctors appointment. She lost both feet because she didn't take
her diabetes seriously. Within a couple of years of losing her feet,
she lost her life from diabetes complications. She was only 50
years old.
She never saw any of her grandchildren. She never got to hold
them or get to know them as individuals. They never got a chance
to know her because she wouldn't take care of herself.
Please, if you're over 45, ask your doctor for a blood glucose level
check and pay attention to your numbers.
